Laser Skin Tightening

Lax, thinning skin on the face, neck, or body can make you feel older than you need to. If you’re not ready for a surgical procedure, Newman Plastic Surgery & Laser Center offers minimally invasive skin tightening options in Westchester, Long Island, and New York City. Results are noticeable and little to no recovery time is needed.

How does nonsurgical skin tightening work?

Collagen and elastin contribute to the elasticity of the skin. While plentiful in younger skin, collagen and elastin are damaged by sun exposure, and their production declines over the years. Skin tightening procedures work below the surface of the skin to increase the production of these proteins. The end result is firmer, tighter skin that looks and feels more like younger skin.

What is the best procedure for skin tightening?

The following treatments provide noticeable results in patients with mild to moderate skin laxity.

  • FaceTite and BodyTite are minimally invasive treatments that use radiofrequency (RF) energy above and below the surface of the skin to tighten tissues, stimulate the production of collagen, and melt fat. These procedures are performed with local anesthetic and require just a few days of downtime.
  • Secret™ RF by Cutera is an RF microneedling device that tightens and firms the skin. It emits RF energy into the skin, not on its surface, through tiny pins. Secret RF is also effective for correcting acne scars and other noticeable scars.

Where can skin tightening procedures be used?

These procedures are so versatile, they can tighten skin just about anywhere needed, including:

  • Face, jawline, and neck
  • Double chin
  • Breasts (nonsurgical breast lift)
  • Upper arms and bra fat (at the armpit)
  • Inner and outer thighs
  • Knees
  • Tummy
  • Waist and hips
  • Bra line and back

Are these skin tightening treatments better than surgery such as facelift?

Imagine the difference between a loose pair of jeans and a pair of leggings (spandex) that fits you snugly. Unlike the jeans, the spandex is form-fitting because it is elastic. You can pinch the spandex off your leg and it “snaps back” when you let go—different from the jeans. Imagine if you could somehow do something to the jean material to make it act more like the spandex. That’s the concept behind skin tightening.

Skin tightening of the face differs very much from the concept of a facelift. Using the concept of the jeans, a facelift is the same as releasing a seam, removing some excess fabric, and re-sewing the seam. In the end, the jeans are tighter, but the fabric is the same. Skin tightening is more similar to replacing the jean material with spandex. Since the material itself now has more “snap,” it fits better.

When will I see results from skin tightening treatments?

After FaceTite and BodyTite treatments, the skin is noticeably smoother and tighter right away. Secret RF usually requires a series of treatments for desired results. As new collagen forms, the skin firms and tightens gradually for about 6 months.

How many skin tightening treatments do I need?

Most patients need just one FaceTite or BodyTite treatment for desired skin tightening. Secret RF usually requires a series of treatments for desired results. While results are impressive, they are less significant than the results of a tummy tuck, facelift, or breast lift.

How long do skin tightening results last?

Once achieved, skin tightening results typically last a few years with a healthy lifestyle. The aging process will continue.
