Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a facial exfoliation technique which utilizes a medical blade to scrape off dead skin cells and facial hair that sit on top of the skin. This reveals fresh, radian skin that is visibly smoother. The treatment works for all types of skin except those with acne.

Understanding the Procedure

Dermaplaning can be performed on small areas of skin or on the whole face. The process begins with washing and drying of the skin. Once dry, the skin is pulled slightly taut by hand and a 10 gauge scalpel is used to take off the top layer of skin. The cosmetic practitioner involved uses short and well rehearsed strokes to safely achieve the desired results. Sha

In addition to removing dead skin cells, dermaplaning also gets rid of vellus hair, which is more commonly referred to as “peach fuzz” or baby hair. This is the short, translucent hair that develops during childhood. Vellus hair usually disappears during puberty but some may remain concealed under the thicker terminal hair that grows.

The process is virtually painless and has a sensation similar to that when shaving.  Because of its non-chemical nature, it can safely be performed more often or used alongside other facial skin treatments. Treatments can be repeated after 21 days. This is how long the skin’s rejuvenation cycle lasts.

What are the benefits of dermaplaning?

  • Promoting greater penetration of skincare products
  • Allowing makeup to slide on easily
  • Preparing the skin for more intrusive cosmetic procedures
  • Helping to reduce visible signs of aging
  • Effective skin even-out

So professional, and kind. Very efficient, and I didn’t feel nearly as uncomfortable as I thought I would talking with him. I was scared to have surgery but he put me at ease and I have never regretted my decision. Great doctor.

Are you a good candidate for dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is recommended for all skin types with the exception of those with acne. This treatment also works particularly well for pregnant women who desire the benefits of exfoliation but are weary of the risk of chemicals running into the bloodstream and affecting their pregnancy.

Is this a painful procedure?

No. Dermaplaning is a virtually painless procedure. The experience feels similar to that of shaving.

What are the risks involved with dermaplaning?

Reddening and swelling may be experienced, as well as increased sensitivity to sun exposure. It is therefore recommended that patients avoid exposing themselves to strong sunlight and wear sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher when outdoors.  But besides the few effects above, dermaplaning is a very safe procedure.

The treatment has zero downtime and one can quickly resume normal activities. Risks related to bleeding are low despite the use of a sharp device. A skilled professional is able to deliver pain free treatments consistently.

How will dermaplaning improve my skin?

There will be an immediate radiance and even skin texture and tone. Any peach fuzz will also disappear and the skin will feel soft and smooth.
