Brow Lift

Lines across the forehead and between the eyebrows are all too common as we grow older. Over time, your skin loses its natural elasticity, which can create drooping brows or creases in your forehead. Frown lines or worry lines can make you look older than you really are, or can give you the appearance of being constantly worried or angry.

A forehead lift, also known as a brow lift, surgically alters the muscles and tissues that cause wrinkling or drooping in the forehead region to give you a more youthful appearance. Dr. Scott Newman performs forehead lift surgery for his New York City, New York area patients and can help you look younger by reducing the lines of age and worry on your forehead.

Deciding on a Forehead Lift

The forehead lift is an effective solution for those who have a disproportionate number of lines and wrinkles in the forehead. It can also be used in conjunction with a face lift to eliminate most of the signs of aging from the face. Forehead lifts are also commonly performed with eyelid surgery or BOTOX® injections for a more complete facial rejuvenation. The forehead lift can help people of any age reduce the signs of aging, but it is most commonly performed on people 40 to 60 years old.

To see what you might look like after a forehead lift, press upward on the skin at either edge of your hairline to tighten the span of the forehead. Many of the lines, both horizontal across the forehead and vertical between the brows, will become less noticeable. The long-term effects of a forehead lift will provide similar results.

To get an even better idea of what a forehead lift can do for you, schedule a consultation with Dr. Newman. You will be able to look at before and after pictures of previous patients to see what a forehead lift can and can’t do to restore your youthful look.

Today is a week since my surgery and I just saw Dr. Newman for my second post-op visit. I am so thrilled. First of all his staff is wonderful. I am amazed at how I feel now only one week later. Dr. Newman told me that I’d be OK to return to work this past Monday only 3 days after surgery. Honestly, I didn’t believe him but as it turned out he was correct. I returned on Tuesday after surgery last Friday. At this point I have almost no pain and I only have a small bruise on my left side. My result is amazing and exactly what I told him I wanted. I heard from other people how good he is and, to be honest, I’m amazed at how easy this was. Go Dr. N!!!

Types of Forehead Lift Surgery

New York City plastic surgeon Dr. Scott E. Newman uses two different techniques to perform forehead lifts. Your recovery period will vary depending on whether you’ve had a classic or endoscopic procedure:

  • Classic forehead lift – An incision is made behind the hairline and the skin is lifted away from the underlying muscles. All excess skin is trimmed away and Dr. Newman will then close the incisions with sutures, clips, or staples.
  • Endoscopic forehead lift –Younger patients usually opt for an endoscopic lift. A device called an endoscope, a tiny camera attached to a thin tube, is placed under the skin to get a clear view of the muscles and tissue. Dr. Newman will insert another instrument to alter the muscles and tissue, and then tack up the skin in a higher position with temporary screws.

Endoscopic forehead lift patients usually experience less discomfort and may be able to return to work more quickly.

How a Forehead Lift Is Performed

Depending on your individual situation and how Dr. Newman chooses to do the surgery, incisions are usually placed either along the hairline or farther back along the head where they will be covered by your hair. The skin of the forehead is tightened and any excess skin is removed, giving your forehead a smoother, more relaxed and youthful look.

As with most plastic surgery procedures, recovery from a forehead lift takes a few weeks. Stitches are usually removed within five to ten days, and the majority of the swelling will have subsided within two weeks. Full healing can take a few months, but as swelling diminishes and scars fade to white, you will begin to see the final results of your forehead lift.
