Dermapen microneedling therapy is a modestly invasive skin-rejuvenation procedure used to improve skin texture and firmness. It uses a device that contains numerous fine needles that perforate the skin to cause microscopic skin injuries. The body responds by filling these minute perforations with newly produced collagen and elastin, effectively tightening up the skin. Because it relies on the body’s own ability to repair itself, the treatment has a host of applications: addressing wrinkling, skin atrophy, scarring, stretch marks, some pigmentation disorders and much more.
Understanding The Procedure
During the microneedling treatments, the surgeon will use a handheld, pen-like device that glides over the patient’s skin. This device creates up to 1,300 micro punctures per second in the skin. The body produces collagen to cover up these holes, giving the skin a new and healthy feeling. The procedure is painless with only the most intensive sessions requiring some numbing gel.
Three options exist for this procedure based on how deep the needs travel into the skin: light, medium and deep. Light penetration is mainly used to open up the skin to receive serums. It provides a larger opening for product molecules to penetrate the skin as they are often too large to penetrate the surface. Medium penetration is used to target sun damage and mild scarring as well as to enhance skin texture and tone. Deeper levels of penetration are used to tackle more intense scars, acne, stretch marks and wrinkles.
One advantage of this treatment method is that it opens up the skin. Products applied during or immediately after the treatment will be readily absorbed and therefore more effective than if applied without treatment. The risk of infection is low as the micro chasms created close up after about an hour.

I was very impressed by my experience at Dr. Newman's office. From free initial consultation to final result, the time I spent was well worth it. The results are exactly what I was looking for. It is hard to put faith into a doctor for the first time. I read a lot of reviews online and decided to go with Dr. Newman because of all the good things that I had heard about him. I am very glad that I made the choice to go with Dr. Newman and I recommend him to anyone looking for plastic surgery in the New York City area.
Is Dermapen Microneedling Right For You?
Microneedling works well for all skin types. It is able to tackle skin imperfections such as wrinkling, fine lines, various types of scars and stretch marks. The procedure has a short healing period as it does not use any heat, chemicals or inflict trauma.
How Soon Do Results Appear?
Results usually appear right after the first treatment. More dramatic results will be seen after 4 to 6 treatments, spaced out at about 4 to 6 weeks. Continuing the recommended skin care will help maintain the results for longer.
Is The Treatment Painful?
The treatment is practically painless. In the case of deep dermal penetration, a simple numbing gel can be applied to make the experience more comfortable. Temporary facial redness may be experienced within 2 days of the treatment. This gradually fades away and most individuals are able to return to their normal routines immediately after the treatment.
