BOTOX® Cosmetic

Since its introduction, BOTOX® Cosmetic has become one of the most popular cosmetic procedures among both men and women in the U.S. because it is a simple, effective, and noninvasive way to look refreshed and more youthful. Dysport® is a more recent alternative that is gaining popularity as well. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Scott E. Newman personally performs all BOTOX and Dysport injections at his Westchester, Long Island, and NYC, NY, practice for the highest level of safety and the most natural-looking results.

What can BOTOX treat?

BOTOX treats lines caused by the repeated contractions of facial muscles which include:

  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Crow’s feet around the eye area
  • Lip lines typically caused by smoking or drinking through a straw

Dr. Newman often combines BOTOX with dermal filler treatments for more complete facial rejuvenation.

How does BOTOX work?

BOTOX gradually smooths away lines and wrinkles by making the associated facial muscles unable to contract. It is administered in very small, carefully targeted doses. Injectable dermal fillers, such as JUVÉDERM® and Restylane®, are also used to treat wrinkles but do so by replacing volume within the skin.

I was very impressed by my experience at Dr. Newman’s office. From free initial consultation to final result, the time I spent was well worth it. The results are exactly what I was looking for. It is hard to put faith into a doctor for the first time. I read a lot of reviews online and decided to go with Dr. Newman because of all the good things that I had heard about him. I am very glad that I made the choice to go with Dr. Newman and I recommend him to anyone looking for plastic surgery in the New York City area.

What can I expect during a BOTOX treatment?

After discussing your goals for your BOTOX treatment, Dr. Newman will determine the best placement for your injections. He administers the treatments in the office. He uses a very fine needle that typically does not cause a great deal of discomfort, so most patients don’t need an anesthetic. The treatment usually takes about 30 minutes, and you can immediately return to your everyday activities afterward.

Dr. Newman’s Perspective: BOTOX vs. Dysport

“While these products are nearly identical, the big difference is that Dysport works faster than BOTOX. With Dysport, the full effect is seen pretty consistently in 4 days, while BOTOX takes about 7 to 12 days to reach its full effect.  I’m a surgeon, so I’m used to immediate gratification! Most patients want to see results, and I typically am pretty conservative with these treatments. I feel it would be impractical if the results took upwards of 2 weeks to see. Typically I tell patients to assume Dysport will be a 2-visit treatment. When I charge for Dysport, I charge everyone the same price, regardless of what they need (unless they want just a single small area done (this is rare). My fee includes touch-ups.”

What should I avoid after a BOTOX treatment?

It is important not to lie down or excessively rub the treated area for the first few hours after treatment to keep from moving the BOTOX to areas where it was not intended to go.

How long do the results from BOTOX injections last?

The full effects of your BOTOX treatment will last about 4 months, after which your concerns will gradually return. We recommend periodic maintenance treatments to maintain your relaxed, refreshed look.
