What Does a Mommy Makeover Typically Include?

Women of all different ages in underwear and bra (model)

Unlike more self-explanatory procedure names such as tummy tuck or breast reduction, the term “mommy makeover” doesn’t exactly explain what this procedure entails. While the name sounds enticing to moms who want to reclaim their pre-baby bodies, there can be some confusion about what all the surgery really does.

In this blog post, I’ll answer the question, “What is typically included in a mommy makeover?” and talk about a few benefits of combining multiple procedures.

Which Procedures Does a Mommy Makeover Include?

The first thing to know about mommy makeovers is that they are fully customizable. There’s not a one-size-fits-all approach because the procedure is personalized to address your own unique list of concerns.

While it’s ultimately up to you and your plastic surgeon which procedures you include, most women choose to have some combination of the following options.

Breast Reduction

Breast reduction restores your breasts to the shape and size they were before pregnancy. It also relieves back pain and other issues caused by disproportionately large breasts.

Breast Lift

One of the most common concerns women face after breastfeeding is sagging or deflation in the breasts. A breast lift resolves this by lifting your breasts to a more youthful position and giving them a firmer, perkier shape. If you’re looking to restore lost volume as well, you may choose to combine your breast lift with a breast augmentation.

Liposuction

Liposuction contours your shape by reducing stubborn pockets of fat that resist diet and exercise. Some women choose to transfer the volume removed via liposuction to their buttocks, a procedure called a Brazilian butt lift.

Tummy Tuck

Tummy tucks, or abdominoplasties, tighten loose skin and repair stretched or weakened abdominal muscles common after pregnancy. A vast majority of mommy makeover patients choose to include a tummy tuck.

Nonsurgical Treatments

In addition to surgery, there are a few medical spa treatments that can put the finishing touches on your look, including:

Is It Safe To Have Multiple Procedures Done at the Same Time?

In general, combining procedures is perfectly safe. Working with a board-certified plastic surgeon keeps your risks of complications low. Your surgeon may stage your surgeries if they determine that to be the safest option based on your goals and medical history.

On top of being safe, combining procedures offers multiple benefits, including:

  • Reduced anesthesia and facility fees compared to having each procedure done separately.
  • Less recovery time overall since you get to recover from multiple procedures at once.

How Much Does a Mommy Makeover Cost?

Because each surgery varies from person to person, costs also vary from person to person. There’s a wide range of possible mommy makeover prices, so your best option is to get a personalized quote after a one-on-one consultation. You can learn more about factors that may affect your mommy makeover cost in this blog post.
