How Does Dr. Newman Perform a Tummy Tuck?
Dr. Newman performs personalized full and mini tummy tuck procedures in Long Island. Our office is just a short drive from North Shore University Hospital, a major Manhasset healthcare facility. For out-of-town tummy tuck patients, The Inn at Great Neck, The Garden City Hotel, and Hilton Garden Inn Roslyn are great options for comfortable and relaxing accommodations.
Dr. Newman’s tummy tucks are based on each client’s unique cosmetic needs and goals. When it comes to post-surgical abdominoplasty scar placement, Dr. Newman always tailors results to patients’ preferences, ensuring well-hidden post-surgical marks.
Some patients like lower-cut clothing, while others prefer a French line that’s a bit higher on the sides towards the hips. For those who prefer a French line, Dr. Newman designs the tummy tuck to achieve a shape that matches this line so that the scar is covered effectively.
Long Island tummy tuck patients are instructed to bring a bathing suit bottom to their surgery or another piece of clothing that has lines that they like. We’re not far from numerous upscale shopping options like Americana Manhasset and the Miracle Mile shopping district.
Tummy Tucks: Common Myths
At our Long Island office near Manhasset Long Island Rail Road Station, Northern Boulevard (NY 25A), and the Port Washington Ferry, Dr. Newman frequently speaks with patients who have misconceptions regarding tummy tuck surgery. He feels that it’s important to dispel these common myths, ensuring that patients have a better understanding of the procedure.
First, though many people assume otherwise, a tummy tuck is not a weight-loss procedure. It’s often used after weight loss, however, since weight loss can leave people with sagging abdominal muscles and drooping lower-abdomen skin. A tummy tuck is specifically for addressing issues like these.
Second, it’s a common misconception that patients cannot get pregnant after a tummy tuck. While pregnancy can negatively affect the results of the tummy tuck, it does not prevent patients from getting pregnant or impair their pregnancy.
Third, men and women can both have tummy tucks. When men lose a lot of weight, this results in many of the same cosmetic abdominal issues that women experience after pregnancy (excess lower-abdominal skin and upper-abdominal rectus-muscle separation).
What’s the Difference Between a Tummy Tuck and Liposuction?
According to Dr. Newman, liposuction is a surgical procedure that specifically removes excess fat. It doesn’t affect the skin or the muscles. In other words, it makes the targeted areas smaller but not tighter. A tummy tuck, on the other hand, removes fat while tightening skin and muscle tissue.

How Long Should a Person Wait After Childbirth to Get Their Tummy Tuck?
When it comes to post-childbirth tummy tucks for Long Island patients, Dr. Newman notes that as time goes on, after childbirth, the abdominal tissues contract. There’s no way to know exactly how much the skin will shrink back down after a delivery.
Because of this, for most patients, it’s best to wait a bit (but not too long) and to not make a decision regarding abdominoplasty before you fully heal. Patients who have had children before and know that they’re finished with having children are recommended to wait a month or two. After that, it’s generally safe, even if these patients have had a C-section.
Often, Long Island patients prefer to combine their post-pregnancy tummy tuck with a breast surgery like a breast augmentation, breast lift, or breast reduction. This can be performed during a single surgical session and is frequently called a mommy makeover.
