Dermal Fillers New York City
As our bodies age, the fat and collagen underneath our skin begins to diminish, causing our skin to sag and unsightly wrinkles to develop. If you are concerned about fine lines and wrinkles or other signs of aging, but are not ready to commit to a face lift, brow lift or other invasive surgical procedure, dermal fillers might be for you. While BOTOX® Cosmetic can treat minor facial creases, dermal fillers are the only injectable filler that can correct deep lines.
Injectable fillers such as Juvederm®, Evolence®, and Restylane® can produce dramatic results without surgery and with no downtime. New York, New York area plastic surgeon, Scott Newman, M.D., F.A.C.S., can show you what dermal fillers can do for you in a personal consultation.
How Dermal Fillers Can Help You Look Younger
Dermal fillers, which include products like Evolence, Restylane, and Juvederm, are gels, usually a form of collagen or concentrated hyaluronic acid, that is injected beneath the skin to fill in fine to medium lines and wrinkles, small scars or other types of blemishes. They are most commonly used to fill in crow’s feet, nasolabial folds—the lines between the nose and the corners of the mouth—and lines on the forehead. In some cases, they are also used to make the lips fuller or to change the outline of the nose, chin or cheeks.
Using dermal fillers to reduce signs of aging is sometimes referred to as a non-surgical face lift. The results from dermal fillers can be dramatic, but unlike a face lift they are not permanent. After a period of time, the fillers are reabsorbed and the effects disappear. This usually takes about six months, but some fillers will last up to a year.
Types of Dermal Fillers
A myriad of dermal fillers are available on the market today, so choosing among them can be an overwhelming process. Dr. Newman will evaluate the condition of your skin and match the right product for your needs. At Advanced Plastic Surgery, we offer a variety of injectable fillers, including:
- Restylane® – a clear liquid gel, a synthetic biodegradable hyaluronic acid (a natural sugar compound). This product binds to water molecules to create a plump look in the injected area.
- Radiesse® – made of a synthetic substance (calcium hydoxyapatite) similar to bone. Radiesse is used in the treatment of deep lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth.
- Juvéderm™ – a pliant consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid. This product is used to treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds.
- Evolence® – derived from pig (porcine) collagen to add volume and structure to depleted facial areas
Which Dermal Fillers are Best?
The type of dermal filler considered “best” is based on what your goals are. Some fillers, such as Restylane, are a thicker gel of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid not only fills in links, wrinkles, or small scars, but also causes additional moisture to gather in the area, helping the effects to last longer. Juvederm, also a hyaluronic acid gel, is likely to last longer than other dermal fillers due to its consistency. Evolence is a collagen-based gel that helps contribute to the supportive tissue beneath the skin.
During your consultation with Dr. Newman, you will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the various dermal fillers and which one is likely to provide you with the best, most long-lasting results. Whether the final choice proves to be Evolence, Restylane or Juvederm, you can be assured that Dr. Newman will provide the best quality treatment and care.
