Long Island Liposuction Overview
Liposuction from Dr. Newman usually takes an hour or longer. After local anesthesia with sedation (or in some cases general anesthesia) is administered, Dr. Newman creates a small incision in the targeted area.
Next, Dr. Newman inserts a cannula into the incision, loosening stubborn fat from the surrounding tissues. The fat is removed from the body using medical suction.
Dr. Newman can perform liposuction in Long Island to contour almost any area of the body. The best areas have a high degree of elasticity, since this helps prevent drooping skin. Popular areas include the abdomen, male chest, inner and outer thighs, breasts, upper arms, buttocks, upper back, hips, and knees. Cheek, neck, and chin liposuction can also be performed.
Dr. Newman’s State-of-the-Art Liposuction Techniques

Dr. Newman sometimes utilizes MicroAire Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL), which involves a mechanized oscillating cannula for gentler loosening of fat cells. Post-surgical swelling and bruising are minimized, and recovery is faster and more comfortable.
When mild to moderately sagging skin remains after liposuction, Dr. Newman can perform state-of-the-art Renuvion® treatment. This treatment directs a focused combination of helium plasma and radiofrequency (RF) energy into the skin tissues.
This encourages tissues to immediately contract, tightening the skin from the inside. It also triggers an increase in collagen production, which continues to make skin firmer and smoother over the course of six to nine months. Only a single treatment is needed.
Dr. Newman can also perform lift procedures after liposuction to address excess skin. These can include arm lifts, thigh lifts, and tummy tucks.
Dr. Newman can include liposuction as part of a package of plastic surgery procedures called a mommy makeover. This restores the body after pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding.
Am I a Good Candidate for Liposuction in Long Island?
Male and female liposuction candidates in Long Island are typically looking for an effective fat-reduction option and are already at or near a stable weight. The best candidates have a high degree of skin elasticity. Smokers, patients with underlying medical conditions, and people looking to achieve high-volume weight loss are not ideal candidates.
Note that liposuction isn’t designed to address cellulite dimples. It can sometimes slightly change the appearance of generalized superficial cellulite, but for deeper and more concerning dimples, the fibrous septa beneath the skin must be released. In certain cases, Dr. Newman can perform this during liposuction.
If you’re interested in addressing cosmetic abdominal issues like excess fat, sagging skin, and drooping muscle tissues, you’ll be better served with a tummy tuck procedure from Dr. Newman.
In many cases, lipo can be paired with breast and body procedures like breast lifts, breast augmentations, and tummy tucks.
To find out if you’re a good candidate for liposuction, arrange an appointment with Dr. Newman at our Long Island office. Our office isn’t far from several beautiful natural landmarks, including the Sands Point Preserve, the Manhasset Bay Marina, and Manhasset Valley Park.
