Westchester Breast Reconstruction: A Brief Overview

For Westchester patients, breast reconstruction from Dr. Newman can take anywhere from one to eight hours. General anesthesia is administered. Dr. Newman creates incisions, rebuilds the breasts, and then closes the incisions with stitches.

I met Dr. Newman and his staff after my Double Mastectomy and reconstruction. It was time to replace my implants and a very close friend recommended Dr. Newman. I was so happy with the results and he made my breast look even better than they were before, but more importantly his bedside manner was incredible. He gave me his cell number and his nurses contact information so I can get in touch with anyone if I had any problems or questions when I arrived home. I knew if I had any other procedures in the future this is where I would want to be and sure enough this past year I decided to have liposuction to a few areas and it was best decision of my life and again the care I received could not have been better, Dr. Newman provided me great results but further more made me understand fully on what my results would be before having the procedure. I will have to say his Honesty blew me away ,and he guided me on what would be the best procedure for me by his experience. I will always be grateful for Dr.Newman and his staff for making me feel whole again after Breast Cancer. -Denise G. -Westchester

Dr. Newman’s Cutting-Edge Breast Reconstruction Techniques

The two main breast reconstruction techniques Dr. Newman performs in Yonkers are flap reconstruction and implant-based reconstruction.

During flap reconstruction, Dr. Newman harvests a tissue flap from another area, like the abdomen, thighs, or buttocks. He grafts this tissue into the chest and shapes it to recreate the breasts’ natural appearance. This can be paired with a tummy tuck, where excess abdominal tissue is used to create the reconstructive flap.

During implant-based reconstruction, Dr. Newman places a silicone or saline breast implant into the chest area. Since these implants are typically larger than normal implants, the process often requires tissue expansion.

Tissue expanders are devices that are gradually filled with saline and expanded, creating space for an implant. The expander is then replaced with the implant.

When the nipple cannot be preserved, breast reconstruction in White Plains can also involve nipple and areola reconstruction.
