Questions About Nose Surgery

New York City, Manhattan, Long Island, and Westchester, New York

What is the recovery after Nose Surgery like?

As with any major, invasive surgery, the body takes some time to recovery from nose surgery. Immediately after the procedure, your nose will usually be packed and protected by a splint. The packing will stay in place for twenty-four to forty-eight hours, while the splint remains for a week to ten days. Stitches are usually removed in four to six days, if Dr. Newman has used any external stitches.

Is Nose Surgery performed under general or local anesthetic?

Depending on your preferences and what Dr. Newman feels will be best for your specific situation, nose surgery can be performed under general or local anesthetic or twilight sedation. Dr. Newman wants you to be comfortable and relaxed during your surgery in order to ensure the best possible results and to reduce your anxiety regarding your nose surgery. If you have any concerns about the type of anesthetic to be used during your procedure, be sure to discuss this with Dr. Newman during your initial consultation.

What are some of the risks of Nose Surgery?

Nose surgery carries the same risk as other surgical procedures, including:

  • Infection
  • Bruising
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Excessive scarring

In addition, nose surgery can, in rare cases, affect breathing, and can also change the sound or resonance of your voice. If you are a professional singer or speaker, you should mention these concerns to Dr. Newman during your consultation.

Risks of nose surgery can be greatly reduced by following the post-operative instructions provided by Dr. Newman. If you experience any unusual symptoms, you should contact Dr. Newman right away.

I have breathing problems related to the structure of my nose. Will cosmetic Nose Surgery help?

Cosmetic nose surgery is intended to change the shape or size of your nose. Breathing problems are usually related to internal structural problems and require a different type of surgery to alleviate them. Examples include a deviated septum, which requires a change to the internal support structures of the nasal passages.

Dr. Scott Newman provides a free initial consultation to help you decide if nose surgery or any other cosmetic procedure is right for you. For more information, please contact the Advanced Plastic Surgery Center, with offices in New York City, Westchester and Long Island.
