Breast Lift

New York City, Manhattan, Long Island, and Westchester, New York

Although the first thing that comes to mind for most people regarding cosmetic surgery for the breast is breast augmentation, there are other options to improve the appearance of the breasts. One of these is a breast lift. New York City area cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Scott E. Newman has extensive experience with this procedure as well as other cosmetic surgery procedures, and would be glad to discuss the possibilities of a breast lift during a free initial consultation.

Candidates for a Breast Lift

As we age, often the skin becomes less elastic as our bodies produce less connective tissue to help preserve the taut, smooth look of youth. For women, this can adversely affect the look, shape and position of the breasts. This is especially true for women who have given birth. The process of pregnancy and breast feeding can cause dramatic changes in the breasts, including stretching of the skin and changes in the underlying tissue, which can lead to unattractive sagging.

Women who are unhappy with the look or position of their breasts, or with how their breasts have changed due to aging and/or childbirth, are often good candidates for a breast lift. A breast lift can restore youthful height and tautness to the breasts’ profile, restoring the self-confidence you had in your younger body.

Performing a Breast Lift

The breast lift procedure involves removing some of the excess skin that has stretched around the breasts due to gravity or pregnancy. The nipple is usually repositioned during the procedure so that it lies in a natural position in spite of the removal of surrounding tissue. Breast tissue is lifted and repositioned in a higher, more youthful placement.

If you have smaller breasts, they might appear even smaller after a breast lift, so some patients will opt to have a breast implant placed at the same time to make up for this apparent loss of volume. The effects of a breast lift can be reversed in the case of a subsequent pregnancy. If you are planning to become pregnant in the future, it might be best to postpone your breast lift.

A breast lift helps reverse the effects of age, gravity and pregnancy, but over time aging and gravity will again take their toll. Patients undergoing breast lift surgery should be aware that the results might not be completely permanent.
