What BOTOX® Cosmetic Does

Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror and wondered why you seem to have a perpetual frown? This is likely due to the automatic, unconscious contraction of muscles in your forehead. Contraction of these muscles can eventually lead to permanent wrinkles between the brows. These vertical wrinkles can be greatly reduced with BOTOX® treatment. Unlike a face lift or a brow lift, BOTOX® treatment is quick and easy and requires little to no downtime.

BOTOX® functions by actually making these muscles unable to contract. To treat these facial wrinkles, it is administered in very small, carefully targeted doses. After a short period of time to take effect, usually a day or two, the lines between your brows will be significantly eased as these muscles relax.

How BOTOX® Cosmetic is Administered

After discussing your goals for your BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment, Dr. Newman will determine the best placement for your injections. The injections themselves can be administered in the office, usually without anesthesia. Needles used to administer BOTOX® injections are very fine and so do not cause a great deal of discomfort. The treatment usually takes a half hour or so, and you can immediately return to your everyday activities.

Some easing of the tension and the deep lines in your brow will be immediately apparent, but the full effect of the treatment will appear within a few days. During that time, it is important not to rub excessively at the treated area to keep from moving the BOTOX® to areas where it was not intended to go. The full effects of your BOTOX® treatment will last about four months, after which they will begin to fade. Additional treatments will be necessary to maintain the more relaxed look of your brow.
