Will Blepharoplasty affect my vision?
Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, should not have an adverse effect on your vision. In fact, in some cases, blepharoplasty actually improves vision. In these cases, fatty tissue has built up in the upper eyelid to the extent that the lid sags down into the normal field of vision, obscuring the line of sight. Blepharoplasty removes that excess fat, returning the lid to its normal position and removing the obstacle from your eyesight.
What will Dr. Newman discuss in our Blepharoplasty consultation?
During your initial consultation, Dr. Newman will talk to you about your goals for your blepharoplasty. Using before and after pictures from previous patients, he will get a good idea of what results you expect to see after the procedure. He will also help you get a good idea of what can and cannot be accomplished with blepharoplasty.
In addition, Dr. Newman will give you an idea of what you will need to do to prepare for your surgery, as well as what kind of aftercare will be necessary.
What is recovery after Blepharoplasty like?
The amount of time for recovery differs with each individual; you will probably experience some swelling and bruising for a couple of weeks. As swelling eases and the incisions heal, you will see more and more of your final results. At first, you might suffer from dry eyes, a condition that can be easily treated with medication. You will also be overly sensitive to sunlight for a time, and should avoid sun exposure according to Dr. Newman’s instructions. Within a few months, Dr. Newman might ask you to return for a follow-up appointment. Within six months or so, you should be close to complete healing.
Will there be significant scarring after Blepharoplasty?
Dr. Newman goes to great effort to ensure that the incisions for blepharoplasty are very thin and well-hidden within the natural folds of the eyelids. Though the incisions will likely be red and somewhat swollen for the first few weeks after surgery, the will gradually fade and turn from red to white, and will be virtually invisible once healing is complete. Following Dr. Newman’s post-operative instructions will help ensure optimal healing.
