Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Westchester ManhattanUnderstanding and confirming the credentials of your surgeon is an important step in your decision making process. Unfortunately, many certifying boards and society names sound very similar, yet their membership requirements vary greatly. It is crucial to understand these differences and to confirm your doctor's credentials before having any procedure performed.

Below is an explanation of some of Dr. Newman's credentials and methods by which they can be verified.

Board Certified—American Board of Plastic Surgery

Board Certified American Board of Plastic Surgery In most states, a licensed physician may perform plastic surgery without being board-certified in plastic surgery. Many similar sounding organizations exist such as The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery and The American Board of Facial Plastic Surgery. These boards do not have as a requirement that the surgeon be trained as a Plastic Surgeon in a program approved by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Membership may include physicians trained in other specialties including otolaryngologists (ENT's), general surgeons, and dermatologists. The fact that a doctor is board-certified does not mean he or she is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS).
