Rhinoplasty

Because of its central and prominent location, the nose serves as a focal point for the face. For this reason, a disproportionately large or asymmetrical nose can detract from the face’s overall look and lead to self-consciousness. Dr. Scott Newman understands that self-consciousness about the size or shape of your nose can adversely affect your quality of life and offers rhinoplasty (also called a nose job) for his Westchester, Long Island, and NYC, New York, patients. In an initial consultation, Dr. Newman can help you decide if rhinoplasty is a good choice for you and, if so, what approach will bring you the best results.

So professional, and kind. Very efficient, and I didn’t feel nearly as uncomfortable as I thought I would talking with him. I was scared to have surgery but he put me at ease and I have never regretted my decision. Great doctor.

What Rhinoplasty Can Do for You

Rhinoplasty can help reduce the size of an overly large nose, even out an asymmetrical nose, or repair damage due to injury that gives the nose an uneven or unpleasant appearance. Depending on the extent and type of modification to be performed, rhinoplasty can be performed through small incisions inside the nose or through an “open” approach, which uses an incision placed in the area between the nostrils. Another alternative is to work on only the tip of the nose, if the rest of the nose does not require modification.

Candidates for Rhinoplasty

Typically, you might be a good candidate for rhinoplasty if:

  • You are unhappy with the size or shape of your nose
  • You have realistic expectations of what rhinoplasty can accomplish
  • You are in generally good health

If you are a professional singer or a professional speaker, you should be aware that rhinoplasty can greatly alter the sound and resonance of your voice. This is because the size and shape of the nose is directly related to the size and shape of the sinuses. Altering the nose can in some cases change the shape of the sinuses, which help create the vibrations that create resonance in the voice. For this reason, if your livelihood depends on specific qualities of your voice, rhinoplasty can create difficulty in maintaining vocal strength.
